This Departments is taking various steps to abolish Untouchability and to prevent activities against Adi Dravidar and Scheduled Tribes. For this protection of civil Rights Act 1955 and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 and rules have been enacted by the Government of India and implemented by the State Government effectively, now the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (PoA) Act 1989 and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (PoA) rules 1995 have been amended by the Government of India after getting concurrence from the State Governments as Scheduled castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) (Amendments) Act 2015 and Scheduled castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Rules 2016-2018. The above said Act and Rules have been notified in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary) and came into force on 01.01.2016, 14.04.2016 and 27.06.2018 respectively.
A sum of Rs.10.00 lakh is given to one village in each district (except Chennai) where untouchability is not practiced in any form and the people live in harmony.

➢ A sum of minimum Rs.85,000 and maximum of Rs.8.25 lakh is awarded as compensation for the family who lost life in the riots. ➢Further as per G.O (Ms) No.94, Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare (PA1) Department, dated 24.11.2021 and G.O (Ms) No.4, Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare (PA1) Department, dated 02.02.2022 , the relief amount has been increased minimum from Rs.85,000 to Rs.1.00 lakh and the maximum from Rs.8.25 lakhs to 12.00 lakhs in the state fund. For Death / Murder, the following additional relief to be given: ➢ (1) Basic pension to the widow or other dependents of deceased persons belonging to SC or ST amounting to Rs.5000 per month as applicable to a Government servant with admissible D.A. ➢ (2) Employment to one of the family members of the deceased. ➢ (3) Provision of agricultural land and house, etc., ➢ (4) Full cost of the education up to graduation level and maintenance of the children of the victims. Children may be admitted to Ashram schools or residential schools, fully funded by the Government. ➢(5) Provision of utensils, rice, wheat, dals, pulses etc., for a period of three months. |
